Hello my friend, welcome back to Walking Together. I'm so glad you've joined me today. Before we begin, take one slow breath. As you breathe, remember the love God has already poured into your life. Have you ever lit a candle in a dark room? The remarkable thing is the flame loses nothing by lighting another candle. The room simply becomes brighter. I've often thought that's a beautiful picture of God's love. It was never meant to stop with us. It was always meant to spread. Listen to these words from John's first letter. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. Notice where John begins, not with a command, but with God's love. Since God so loved us, everything starts there. We don't love in order to earn God's love. We love because we have already received it. God's love always moves first. Our love becomes the response, like water flowing from a spring, the love we've received naturally overflows into the lives of others. As we've been walking together throughout June, we've discovered God's presence, his wisdom, his guidance, his peace, his strength. Now John reminds us that this journey was never only about us. Walking with God always leads us towards people. The closer we walk with Christ, the more his love begins flowing through us, into our families, our friendships, our workplaces, even towards those who are difficult to love. Perhaps today God will place someone in your path, someone who needs encouragement, forgiveness, patience, kindness. Can I gently encourage you? Don't simply ask who deserves my love? Instead ask Lord, who needs to experience your love through me today? Because the love of Christ was never meant to be stored, it was meant to be shared. Here's today's sentence to carry with you God's love grows strongest when it flows through us to someone else. Today's verse begins with one of the most important words in the New Testament since God so loved us, John builds everything on what God has already done. Christian love never begins with human effort, it begins with divine grace. Before we ever loved God, he loved us. Before we ever thought about loving others, Christ laid down his life for us. That's why John doesn't simply tell us to become more loving, he reminds us to remember the love we've already received. I've often noticed that when I struggle to love someone, it's usually because I've forgotten how deeply I've been loved myself. The more we understand the cross, the more naturally love begins flowing towards others. Think about Jesus. He loved the people who misunderstood him, the people who disappointed him, even those who crucified him. That kind of love cannot be manufactured. It is the life of Christ growing within us. Throughout June we've watched the fruit of the Spirit slowly appear love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, faithfulness. Now John reminds us of something beautiful. Love is never the finish line, it's the overflow. Walking with God naturally changes the way we walk with people. Our words become gentler, our forgiveness becomes quicker, our compassion becomes deeper. Not because we've become remarkable people, but because Christ's love has become increasingly at home within us. Perhaps this is one of the greatest signs of spiritual maturity, not how much Bible knowledge we've accumulated, but how much of Christ's love others experience when they're with us. As we approach the end of this month's journey, today's passage quietly asks us has God's love stopped with you or is it flowing through you? Perhaps today's invitation is beautifully practical. Look for one opportunity today to become an answer to someone else's prayer, one encouraging word, one act of kindness, one moment of grace, small acts, eternal significance. Let's pray together. Father. Thank you that your love reached us long before we ever reached towards you. Help us never take that love for granted. Fill our hearts so completely with the love of Christ that it naturally overflows into every relationship. Help us forgive as we have been forgiven, serve as we have been served, love as we have been loved, and may every person we meet catch a glimpse of Jesus through the way we love them, in his precious name. Amen. Before you continue with your day, think about one person who may need encouragement today. Now quietly pray, Lord, let your love reach them through me. Sit with that prayer. Be ready for the opportunity God provides. Walking this today, notice. Who is God inviting me to love intentionally today? Pray, Lord Jesus, let your love overflow through my life. Remember God's love grows strongest when it flows through us to someone else. Until tomorrow, keep walking, keep loving, keep allowing the love of Christ to flow wherever you go.
